OKLAHOMA CITY– Representatives from dozens of the state’s domestic insurance companies learned about emerging industry trends, changes to Oklahoma’s workers’ compensation system, the growing federal influence in insurance regulation and more at the Oklahoma Insurance Department’s Domestic Conference.
“I think it is extremely important to hold this annual event,” said Oklahoma Insurance Commissioner John D. Doak. “Our domestic insurers help keep the Oklahoma economy going and assist consumers in rebuilding their lives after a catastrophic event. We want to do all we can to help these companies succeed.”
Domestic Conference speakers discussed current challenges facing businesses, innovative solutions and strategies to foster a pro-buiness environment in the Oklahoma insurance industry. Keynote speaker and Connecticut Insurance Commissioner Thomas Leonardi addressed the issue of systemic risk and international insurance issues.
“I think a conference like this is really important because it gives the regulators, the consumers and the industry an opportunity to get together and talk about the issues that are so important for everybody in this community,” said Leonardi. “I also think it’s really important and very instructive to see how the issues in Oklahoma are different, to some extent, than the issues in Connecticut and virtually every other state. I think that’s the beauty of the state-based system, that every state is a separate market and no one quite understands that market like regulators and industry working together in that state. So that, to me, is a big plus of having a state domestic conference like this one.”
Guest speakers also included Lt. Gov. Todd Lamb, Sen. Bill Brown and Rep. Dan Kirby.
